Jenny Wren is a beaitiful hand-crafted, thoughtfully designed 18' long wooden shepherds hut, nestled in trees with a seperate luxurious bathroom and a romantic, woodland woodfired hot tub where you can while away evenings under the stars. Jenny Wren is part of Mill Cross Retreats- the little place in a big world, where we are committed to giving you the chance to step off, slow down & recharge your batteries in a secluded spot so you can escape to a tranquil haven for your stay. We have 6 acres of land & are in beautiful Rattery, a small, rural village with a brilliant village pub, less than 10 minutes from the A38, so very easy to reach from London, Bristol, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset- perfect for a get away from it all break.
Hand-built by us, Jenny Wren, is thoughtfully & carefully planned with Hobbit woodburner (logs provided), comfy sofa, well equipped hand-built kitchen with small retro fridge. It is extremely well insulated and stays very warm in the Winter- perfect for snuggling down & recharging. We have a BBQ & firepit outside & provide wood & local charcoal for these at cost.
A fixed (small double) bed has a luxurious comfortable mattress, Devon wool duvet, feather & down pillows & beautiful cotton bedlinen.
On arrival you will find Luscombe elderflower, organic milk/oat milk & homemade biscotti, as well as all of our other complimentary items inc.olive oil, fantastic Grumpy Mule organic coffee, Clipper and Pukka teas, herbs & sugar.
Outside you can sit on the chunky wooden steps, bathed in early morning sunshine or on the patio area & look out at the garden & trees, whilst the chickens and ducks potter round. The area is completely private & peaceful.
The separate, beautiful bathroom, just for Jenny Wren is also very well insulated & heated with large sink, spacious shower and luxurious fluffy towels. Beautiful Faith in Nature toiletries & a hairdryer are provided.
A real highlight is the private, secluded, romantic and beautiful woodland hot tub, just a short stroll from Jenny Wren where you can sit under the stars & look at the night sky. There is a charge of £50 for 2 consecutive days' hot tub use. Unlike electric hot tubs, this uses fresh water & no chemicals-so is a real treat under the stars or on a lazy afternoon. We will light it & bring it up to temperature for you. It can be used for two consecutive days before it needs to be drained & cleaned.
You can order locally sourced breakfast packs & our own organic homemade cream teas amongst other items- we will send you details when you book. We are just a few minutes walk away (across the fields or along the lane) from a brilliant local pub-The Rattery Church House Inn, one of the oldest (and in our view the best) in Devon.
We are committed to local, organic & sustainable and try to source everything according to those principles. We provide lots of info on local shopping & hope you will join us in supporting local, independent businesses during your stay. We are lucky to have Ben's Farm Shop very nearby & heartily recommend it for all your supplies.
At Mill Cross Retreats, we have a woodfired cookery school & offer private cookery workshops and occasional crafting workshops, with a 10% discount for our guests. We sometimes offer woodfired pizzas too....Please ask if you would like details on any of this.
If you follow us on Social Media or see our blogs, you will find plenty of great suggestions for places to go and things to do, but we also have a welcome book, guidebooks & maps to inspire you. Plus we are around to give advice and tips when needed.
You can also explore our 6 acres, meet & feed the goats or chickens and sit up in our secluded fields with a book or a glass of wine.
We regret that Jenny Wren is not big enough for pets or babies- it is just perfect for 1 or 2!
We now offer 2 nights stays in Jenny Wren all year round though recommend 3 days minimum to totally unwind! For 7 night stays, you get one free night and we offer other discounts at various times- all details can be seen on our booking page.
